Johnny Sauter, Team Yellow Racing placed 16th at Daytona last weekend, and this weekend, they’re racing at California Speedway.
Johnny Sauter and Team Yellow Racing turned in an outstanding performance last weekend, coming from the 41st starting position to finish 16th in the 49th running of the Daytona 500. Sauter, racing in only his second Daytona 500, had made his way into the top-20 by the 50-lap mark and spent most of the second half of the race in the top 10, reaching as high as fourth. With superb service from his performance-driven pit crew, Sauter and Team Yellow Racing kicked off their 10th season with a strong team performance and a great outlook on the season to come.
“From the time we locked into to the race last Sunday, to our strong run in the Dual 150, we knew it was going to be a good weekend for Team Yellow Racing,” said Sauter. “As the race drew closer, our confidence continued to grow. To come out of the Daytona 500 with a top-20 is something for the entire team to be proud of.
“We had such a strong car, but we were much better on long runs. It’s so unpredictable with the way we draft out there. We got caught in the wrong line a couple of times, but we learned a lot. Overall, tonight is a huge success and a great start for Team Yellow Racing.” transport services
A late-race accident caused a red-flag period followed by a green-white-checker finish, but the action didn’t stop there. As Kevin Harvick made a last-lap move on the outside to edge Mark Martin for the win, cars crashed and flipped while crossing the finish line. Sauter cleared the melee to secure the 16th position.
Martin was followed by Jeff Burton, Mike Wallace and David Ragan rounding out the top five.
This weekend, Haas CNC Racing’s cars may be confusing: drivers Johnny Sauter and Jeff Green are swapping sponsors on the team’s pair of NASCAR Nextel Cup cars for the race at California Speedway.
Sauter’s No. 70 will carry the logos of Best Buy, while Jeff Green’s No. 66 will carry the Yellow Freight design. This is the first of two races when the two will switch paint schemes.
Green has a locked-in position in the Auto Club 500 by virtue of being in the top 35 in owner points from last season. Sauter’s team is new, and he must qualify based on speed. Sauter did so last weekend, locking himself into the Daytona 500 during qualifying.
